Week 0: Getting Started | My Value Betting Journey from $1k to $2k

Hi! My name is Alex and I work for Trademate Sports. I’ve been tasked with the challenge of doubling $1,000 USD into $2,000 USD using the Trademate Sports software- a value betting tool which helps you beat the bookmakers. From January 2016 to September 2019, Trademate customers made €4.2M from the bookies with an avg. ROI of 2.55%. Here is a quick run-down of how I got myself set up!

SETTING UP MY TRADEMATE ACCOUNT

Firstly, I started a free trial to give myself a week of no subscription fee. Remember, Trademate Sports has a Value Guarantee, so if you don’t make a profit in the first month, you can get a second month for free.

MY PRESETS

Inside Trademate, on the page called the ‘Tradefeed’, it is possible to define presets, which are filters we use for selecting our bets. I have five presets, ordered 1 to 5, so that if multiple trades come in for each preset at the same time, I can easily choose which ones to place first. Read this article as to why they are ordered in this way and the explanation behind each preset.

Preset 1: All Bookies 1X2

STAKE SIZING

I’m using 30% of the Kelly Criterion, watch this video if you want to know why. My maximum bet is set at $20, so that I’m never risking more than 2% of my bankroll on any given game.

SETTING UP MY BETTING ACCOUNTS

Read this article for more detail on setting up an account, but here are the most important things.

bookmakers

STEP 1: WHICH BOOKIES TO CHOOSE?

I’ve chosen Betfair, Bet365, William Hill, CoolBet and BetVictor. I’d like to note that we are not affiliated with any of these bookies, they were simply chosen as they provide a high volume of value bets.

STEP 2: SETTING UP ACCOUNT & VERIFICATION

As soon as I made an account with each bookie, I started the verification process before depositing money. I wanted to make sure that no matter what happened, I could withdraw my money at any time. The verification process was quite quick in this instance, I simply sent a photo of my passport and something showing my proof of address, and within 24 hours I was verified with every bookie.

STEP 3: DEPOSITING AND BONUSES

I already had an account with Bet365, but the rest offered me a deposit bonus, with the exception of BetVictor. I was only able to get the CoolBet ‘double your money’ bonus as I used an eWallet to deposit for the other four bookies. Note: When depositing through an eWallet, make sure you use the same currency between the bookie, eWallet and your bank account to avoid exchange rate fees. In terms of finding bonuses for your bookie, I find a simple Google search is the easiest way to find them, as some bookies like to hide them as best as they can. Note: Make sure you read the bonus bet terms and conditions as some bookies reserve the right to terminate or amend your bonus at any time, and it can also give you information on how many times you need to turn the bonus over. Doing all of this is pretty straightforward when using Trademate.

STEP 4: DISTRIBUTING MY BANK ROLL

As you can see above, my bank roll has been distributed differently between bookmakers. This is because I have put more money into the bookies that provide a higher volume of trades. As you can see, I have put 3/10 of my bank roll in Betfair for that exact reason. If you’re not sure about the volume of trades a bookie will provide you, you can keep some of your bank roll in reserve until you get a clearer picture. Note: Check what deposit bonus each bookie is offering so you can max out that bonus!

NOW I’M READY TO GO!

Value betting is a long-run game and the most important part to my success will be how many trades I get in. Watch out for my weekly videos and articles to track my journey!
