What is OVER/UNDER in Sports Betting?

In Sports Betting, OVER/UNDER is a market where you can predict the amount of goals/points in a particular match.

OVER/UNDER IS ALSO KNOWN AS THE TOTALS MARKET

OVER/UNDER market for a football match

Above, we have an example of the OVER/UNDER Market on a popular online bookmaker WILLIAM HILL for a football match.

The market is shown as TOTAL MATCH GOALS OVER/UNDER 0.5,1.5,2.5 + GOALS.

Of course there can be never be half a goal in a game, so if a bet is placed on OVER 1.5 GOALS then there has to be at least 2 goals for the bet to win.

Similarly, if a bet is placed on UNDER 1.5 GOALS then the bet will win if there isn’t more than 1 goal.

OVER/UNDER can also be used in other sports such as Basketball, Ice Hockey and American Football. Below we have an example of an OVER/UNDER on an NBA basketball game.

Again, using William Hill, we can see that they have an entire section of Totals that we can place on this particular game.

The first option is Total Points and this allows punters to decide whether they believe the match will be OVER or UNDER 237.5 Points.

If the game has less than 237 then the UNDER part will win.

If the game has 238 or more then the OVER part will win.

Below the Total Points, you can see the option to bet on the points through a particular part of the match. We can bet on Total Points for the first half and each quarter and once you become more experienced there are even more options to choose from!

OVER/UNDER is an important part of Sports Betting and it is very important for you to know.
