Draw No Bet (DNB) is a two-way market on a team to win. Settlement is exact:

Match result DNB on that team
Team wins Bet wins at the taken DNB price
Draw Bet is void — stake returned (same idea as a push)
Other team wins Bet loses

It is not free insurance. The book prices the draw out by shortening the win odds versus the same side on 1X2. You are buying a different contract: win-or-void instead of win-or-lose-including-draw.

Example framing (illustrative only — not a tip or live market): Manchester United vs Chelsea. DNB United pays if United win, voids if 0–0 / 1–1 / etc., and loses if Chelsea win.

DNB vs 1X2 vs Double Chance

Same fixture, different payoffs:

Market Wins when… Draw Loses when…
1X2 home (1) Home wins Lose Away wins
DNB home Home wins Void (stake back) Away wins
Double Chance 1X Home or draw Win (at the DC price) Away wins

Double Chance 1X covers two of three 1X2 outcomes and pays a shorter price. DNB covers one outcome and refunds on the draw. They are not interchangeable — fair prices differ. Double chance is covered on the 1X2 page; there is no separate DC pillar here.

Same market: Asian Handicap 0

If your book has no DNB label, Asian Handicap 0 on the same side is the same settlement:

Result DNB / AH 0 on Team A
Team A wins Win at the posted price
Draw Stake returned (void / push)
Team B wins Lose

Shop the number the same way you would any other line. AH 0 and DNB are naming differences on most soft books; compare the actual decimal (or American) price, not the label.

DIY: split stake on 1 and X

When you have neither DNB nor AH 0, you can approximate the cash outcome of a void-on-draw by backing the team and the draw on 1X2, with stakes sized so a draw returns your combined outlay (net zero) and a team win leaves a known profit.

This is not the same product as a listed DNB:

  • You pay overround on two selections, not one.
  • An away win still loses both stakes.
  • Profit on a home win is smaller than putting the same total cash on a DNB/AH 0 line at a comparable win price, because only part of the bankroll sits on the win.

Use it as a liquidity hack when the real DNB/AH 0 line is missing or worse — not as a “safer” +EV method by itself.

Stake formulas

Let T = total cash you are willing to risk on the combined position. Let O_d = decimal odds on the draw, O_h = decimal odds on the home (or chosen team) win.

home_stake = T × (O_d − 1) / O_d
draw_stake = T − home_stake

Net results (profit, not return):

net_if_home_wins = (O_h − 1) × home_stake − draw_stake
                   # same as: O_h × home_stake − T
net_if_draw      = (O_d − 1) × draw_stake − home_stake
net_if_away_wins = −T

On a home win you still lose the draw stake — that is why it is subtracted. Parentheses matter on the draw side too: (O_d − 1) × draw_stake is the draw profit; then subtract the losing home stake. Writing O_d − 1 × draw_stake is wrong (operator precedence).

Worked example (illustrative)

1X2 board: 1.50 | 4.00 | 9.00. Total risk T = £100. You want home win, void-like on draw.

home_stake = 100 × (4.00 − 1) / 4.00 = £75
draw_stake = 100 − 75 = £25
Result Home P/L Draw P/L Net
Home wins (1.50 − 1) × 75 = +£37.50 −£25 +£12.50
Draw −£75 (4.00 − 1) × 25 = +£75 £0
Away wins −£75 −£25 −£100

Same stakes as a textbook DNB synthetic: £75 / £25. Home win nets +£12.50 (home profit +£37.50, draw stake −£25), flat on the draw. Effective return on the £100 package if home wins is 112.50 / 100 = 1.125 decimal — worse than a true DNB at 1.50 on a full £100 stake (+£50), which is expected once the stake is split.

When DNB is not value

DNB / AH 0 is just another price. “I am protected on the draw” does not make the bet +EV.

  • Fair rough check. If your true probs are p_h, p_d, p_a with p_h + p_d + p_a = 1, then conditional on no draw the fair home chance is p_h / (p_h + p_a). Fair DNB home decimal ≈ (p_h + p_a) / p_h. If the offered DNB is shorter than that after you trust your model, you do not have value — you have a shorter two-way.
  • 1X2 home vs DNB. 1X2 home loses on the draw; DNB voids. DNB must be shorter than 1X2 home on the same book. That shortening is the cost of the void. Compare both to your fair, separately.
  • Synthetic 1+X. Equalising the draw does not create edge. It converts a three-way into a DIY two-way while eating two margins. Prefer a real DNB/AH 0 (or a better 1X2 price you actually want) when the number is better.
  • Wrong tool for “I am scared of the draw.” Fear is not a stake model. If the draw is underpriced on 1X2, that is a different bet. If your edge is on the home win including draw risk, take 1X2 home at the right size — do not automatically migrate to DNB and assume the same edge applies.

Price shop DNB the same way you shop any line. Edge still means offered odds versus your fair — see value betting and expected value (EV).

Next step once you can read the board: compare the listed DNB / AH 0 number to 1X2 and to your fair two-way. Light note — tools such as Trademate Sports can surface +EV match prices against a reference line once you price the contract yourself. No invented ROI; the settlement maths above are the product.

FAQ

What is Draw No Bet (DNB)?
A two-way team-to-win market: the bet wins if that team wins, is void (stake returned) if the match draws, and loses if the other team wins.

Is Draw No Bet the same as Asian Handicap 0?
Yes for settlement on a two-way team market: win pays, draw voids, loss loses. Always compare the posted odds; labels differ by book.

How is DNB different from Double Chance 1X?
Double Chance 1X wins on home or draw (two of three 1X2 outcomes) and loses only on the away win. DNB wins only on the home win and voids on the draw. Different payoff; different fair price.

How is DNB different from 1X2 home?
1X2 home loses on a draw. DNB refunds on a draw. That is why DNB odds are shorter than 1X2 home on the same book — you are paying for the void.

Does splitting stake on 1 and X make the position +EV?
No. It only targets a flat result on the draw. Edge still comes from the prices versus your fair probabilities — and the synthetic usually faces more overround than a single DNB/AH 0 line.

When is DNB +EV?
When your estimated win probability (conditional on no draw, or via the fair two-way decimal (p_h + p_a) / p_h) beats the offered DNB price after you trust the model. Protection on the draw is not edge by itself.
